Chris and I opted to start the day with a swim practice in order to jump start the metabolisms and burn as many calories as early as possible. With that exercise out of the way, I knew the pumpkin pie would be calling my name! While I prepared a couple of dishes, the boys engaged in a physical game of touch football, while at the same time seeming unphased by the 25 degree weather. We headed over to the in-laws, readied for our annual gorging. The in-laws house is a 1924 Colonial Revival which has been beautifully renovated. Every inch is decorated and there is a Christmas tree in every room. Note the beautiful dining room tree above.
Mealtime consisted mostly of heated political discussions (don't worry, that happens at all Vandiford gatherings) and sneaking the family pets (4 dogs and 2 cats) food under the table.
After the dishes were cleared, it was time for Battle of the Sexes. With my knowledge of sports and a friend's knowledge of alcoholic beverages, we were a force to be reckoned with. Since the boys were stumped by questions pertaining to birth control and cooking spices, they were easily defeated (much whining involved).
At this point, the girls and Chandler decided it was time to "move it, move it" and we headed off to see the movie Madagascar. The boys (Chris, Christopher and Grandpa Doug) went to see Twilight.
We spent the last part of our Thanksgiving searching through the doorbuster ads in preparation for tomorrow. Then it was time for the long awaited pumpkin pie...and, oh, was it good.
Now, I head off to bed in gluttonous agony, yet with gratitude for a perfect day with family!
